Porcelain Veneers

Transform the appearance of your smile with veneers

Veneers are very thin, custom-made porcelain shells designed to cover the front surface of your teeth and enhance their appearance. They are extremely versatile and able to hide a multitude of imperfections, including chips, cracks, gaps and discolouration. Whether you have one veneer, or a whole arch of veneers, you can expect a dramatic smile transformation.

CEREC veneers at Holmes Dental Care

Veneers provide a quick and effective solution for achieving a radiant, flawless smile. Unlike other treatments which need several months for you to see results, veneers can be completed in just a couple of appointments. At Holmes Dental Care, our in-house CEREC machine means we can even create and fit your flawless custom veneers in a single visit. Our veneers are thin and strong, and require less tooth enamel removal. In some cases, we don’t have to treat the tooth at all.

What does the treatment involve?

If you are interested in having dental veneers, we first need to see you for a consultation. We make sure your teeth and gums are perfectly healthy and take digital impressions so we can create models of your teeth. These models are used for a ‘trial smile’ where we show you a preview of how veneers can transform the appearance of your teeth. You have the option to try your new smile and make changes to it before your final veneers are fitted.

Once you are happy with the plan for your veneers, they are created either in-house with our CEREC machine or sent to a dental lab. If necessary, we prepare your teeth by removing a layer of enamel, and fit temporary veneers.

When your veneers are ready, we make sure the look is exactly as you expected before fitting them to the front surface of your teeth using strong dental adhesive.

Frequently asked questions

How do I look after my veneers?

After fitting, it is important to keep your veneer well-maintained with regular brushing and flossing. Your dentist and hygienist will show you how to keep on top of your dental hygiene and keep a close eye on the health of your teeth and gums.

Can veneers break?

Although veneers are resilient, it is important to treat them with care, so try not to bite your fingernails or chew pen tops or use your teeth to open anything. Also, it is probably best to steer clear of very hard foods that could cause damage to the veneer.

Are veneers permanent?

In many cases, fitting porcelain veneers requires some of your natural tooth enamel to be removed. Therefore, they are an irreversible treatment, designed to be kept on your teeth permanently. Your veneers themselves can last up to 15 years before needing to be replaced, depending on how well you look after them.

Are veneers painful?

You shouldn’t find either the treatment for veneers or the veneers themselves painful. We use a local anaesthetic to minimise your discomfort during the preparation and fitting process and ensure you are relaxed and ready before beginning any treatment. Most patients experience no pain or discomfort at all. You may feel some sensitivity once your veneers have been fitted, but this will go away after a few days.
