We’ll work with you to keep your smile healthy
At Holmes Dental Care, we encourage all our patients to see us at least twice a year for a dental check-up. It’s understandable that if you feel no pain and you’re happy with how your smile looks, it can be tempting to skip a few dental appointments – but if you want things to stay that way, a regular check-up is essential so that your dentist can flag any underlying problems that you might not be aware of. We will also advise and gently remind you about the little things, such as regular brushing and flossing, that make a big difference to your overall health and mitigate against costly future procedures.
Taking the fear out of fillings
Fillings are now so high-tech, they are nothing to be afraid of these days, and involve far less drilling than used to be the case. If your Whitchurch dentist flags a cavity before it becomes too deep-rooted, a composite white filling is a simple solution that will last for many years. Created using a tooth-coloured, putty-like resin that can be moulded to fit your tooth exactly, tooth-coloured fillings don’t require as much of your natural tooth to be removed as traditional amalgam. The result is natural-looking and hardly noticeable.
Snoring, grinding & contact sports: bespoke protective solutions
If you are suffering with snoring or teeth grinding problems, or you play a contact sport, Holmes Dental Care can provide you with a bespoke mouth guard that will protect your teeth accordingly. Custom-made in a dental lab using your digital dental impressions, mouth guards work in different ways depending on your concerns. While a night guard for bruxism (teeth grinding and jaw clenching) cushions your teeth against the pressures of grinding, a snoring device holds your jaw in the right position to keep your airway open – so you and your partner can finally enjoy a peaceful night’s rest. Sports guards, meanwhile, provide optimum protection against tooth damage or loss, without feeling bulky.
Alleviate your anxiety, overcome your fears
We take dental anxiety very seriously at Holmes Dental Care, because we understand that it can be a barrier to accessing the routine and preventive care you need to enjoy a long-term healthy smile. As well as offering our patients a range of gentle approaches to alleviating anxiety, we provide dental sedation in Whitchurch, a proven technique that can completely transform your experience of dental visits.
FAQS
Will it hurt to get a filling?
No. Fillings are carried out under a local anaesthetic, so you won’t feel a thing during treatment. If you are at all nervous about having an injection, do let us know so that we can gently help you through the procedure – we have a number of tried and tested techniques at our disposal and lots of experience helping nervous patients.
Why might I need a dental night guard for teeth grinding?
Teeth grinding causes painful symptoms, which a night guard can alleviate. These include:
- Facial pain
- Headaches
- Earache
- Jaw pain and stiffness
- Sleep problems
- Worn-down, and therefore sensitive, teeth
- Broken teeth or fillings
How long will my custom sports guard last?
Children will need to replace their sports guard fairly regularly while their teeth and jaw are still growing. For adults, sports guards will need replacing as and when they begin to look worn – we recommend bringing your sports guard with you to your regular check-up, so that your Whitchurch dentist can assess its condition.
How does a night guard prevent snoring?
A bespoke dental night guard supports the lower jaw in a forward position, which keeps the airway open. This prevents the tongue falling back onto the soft palate, which in turn prevents snoring.
