How do Invisalign® aligners straighten teeth?
Invisalign® treatment is based around a series of custom made, removable, clear aligners that each move the teeth in a specific way. Invisalign® recommend that their aligners are worn for a minimum of 22 hours a day.
We have found that the best approach to wearing them is to fully commit to the treatment and accept that to be able to get the smile that you want; you need to wear them for the recommended time frame. Simply, the more you leave them out – the longer your treatment will take.
We accept that there will be times when wearing the aligners will not be practical – for example: when going out to dinner, or attending a wedding. Don’t worry too much about this; just make sure the aligners are placed back in as soon as is reasonably possible.
During treatment with us you can expect to wear each aligner for about two weeks before replacing with the next in the series. If you’re keen to experience the alignment as quickly as possible, we can even advise/arrange for you to change your aligners once a week. With each aligner your teeth will move – little by little, week by week and your Invisalign® dentist will monitor your progress every six weeks or so and make any adjustments you may need. We can even monitor your progress remotely using state of the art technology, a scan box and artificial intelligence.
Treatment duration will vary depending on the complexity of your case. An average treatment time is between 6 and 12 months. As with all teeth straightening methods, you will need to wear a retainer following treatment to prevent your teeth moving back to their original position.

Are there any age limits?
No, there are no age limits. We have treated patients between the ages of 18 to 75 for orthodontic problems. People in their 50s, 60s and 70s are starting Invisalign® treatment at Holmes Dental Care. It is possible to straighten your teeth whatever your age.

And what a little gem the practice is, not only is it 10 min walk from my home, it’s been by far the best dentist I’ve been too .
